Claims government helped to free ex-MASLOC CEO false and baseless - Dr Ayine

Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the appeal filed by the former MASLOC CEO, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, which resulted in the Court of Appeal acquitting and discharging her.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Dr Ayine stated that Tamakloe-Attionu filed her appeal in May 2024, before the current NDC administration assumed office.

He stated that the Republic opposed Tamakloe-Attionu's appeal by filing written submissions, arguing that it lacked merit and should be dismissed.

He therefore rejected claims that the appeal was filed under the current government to secure her acquittal, describing such assertions as "false and totally baseless."

“Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu filed an appeal against her conviction in May, 2024, two clear years ago, and he opposed it in court. The claim, therefore that the appeal was filed under this government as part of a move to free her is false and totally baseless,” he said.

Meanwhile, the AG has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to immediately file a notice of appeal at the Supreme Court against the Court of Appeals judgment.

"The attention of the Attorney General has been drawn to the decision of the Court of Appeal acquitting the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Attionu Tamakloe, of all the charges brought against her.

"Having received notice of the Court of Appeal's decision, the Attorney General has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions to immediately file a notice of appeal to the Supreme Court, together with an application for a stay of execution of the judgment pending the determination of the appeal," portions of the document stated.

The Attorney General also expressed confidence that the appeal before the Supreme Court would succeed.

"The Attorney General remains committed to the due process of law and is confident that the appeal before the Supreme Court will succeed," it added.
