Prophet Uche's presidential tenure prophecy resurfaces following government’s proposal

A prophecy made by the Founder and Leader of Reign House Chapel, Prophet Eric Uche Boahen, regarding an extension of Ghana’s presidential tenure has resurfaced following the government’s acceptance of a proposal to increase the term of office for presidents from four to five years.

Speaking during a church service on December 31, 2024, Prophet Boahen claimed to have foreseen changes to Ghana’s constitutional provisions on presidential tenure.

According to him, he saw lawmakers introducing legislation that would generate public debate and alter the existing four-year presidential term.

“I saw them pass a law in Parliament that brought confusion on presidential tenure from four years. I saw them extend the presidential term,” he stated during the prophetic declaration.

The prophecy has attracted renewed attention after the government of Ghana, on July 30, 2026, announced its acceptance of recommendations from a constitutional review committee established by President John Dramani Mahama to examine the 1992 Constitution.

Among the key recommendations endorsed by the government is a proposal to extend the presidential term from four years to five years. The government also accepted a recommendation to extend the tenure of Parliament to align with the proposed new presidential term.

Addressing the public on the outcome of the review process, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, explained that the proposed changes are intended to provide governments with adequate time to implement their development agendas.

According to the government, the current four-year term is often affected by lengthy transition periods and election-related activities, reducing the effective time available for governance and policy implementation.

The government further accepted a recommendation to lower the minimum age requirement for presidential candidates from 40 to 35 years. However, it rejected the committee’s proposal to reduce the age threshold to 30 years.

Another major reform endorsed by the government is the proposal to hold presidential elections in the first week of November. Officials believe the change will provide a sufficient transition period before the inauguration of a new president on January 7.

The proposed constitutional amendments, particularly those relating to presidential and parliamentary tenure, are expected to undergo several legislative processes before being presented to Ghanaians in a national referendum scheduled for 2027.

For the changes to be adopted, at least 40 percent of registered voters must participate in the referendum, with a minimum of 75 percent of valid votes cast in favour of the amendments.
