Nsawam MCE cuts sod for 24-Hour Economy Market, says project will boost business

The Municipal Chief Executive for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Selorm Fumey, has cut the sod for the construction of the municipality’s 24-Hour Economy Market, describing it as a major step toward implementing the government’s flagship 24-hour economy policy.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on July 29, 2026, Fumey said the market is being developed as a comprehensive business hub designed to facilitate round-the-clock commercial activity and drive economic growth in the municipality.

He explained that the project goes beyond a traditional marketplace. The facility will include a police station, banking centre, clinic and other essential amenities to support traders and ensure the smooth operation of businesses day and night.

“The market will serve as the centre for business under the 24-hour economy. As productivity increases through the three-shift system, businesses will have a safe and well-equipped place to operate around the clock, ultimately improving trade and economic activities in the municipality,” Fumey stated.

According to the MCE, the government’s 24-hour economy policy is expected to introduce a three-shift working system that will increase productivity across various sectors. The establishment of dedicated 24-hour economy markets, he added, will provide the ideal environment for businesses to thrive under the policy.

Fumey expressed confidence that the project will create employment opportunities, improve trading conditions, and stimulate local economic development, while positioning Nsawam-Adoagyiri as a key commercial hub in the Eastern Region.

The Okuapeman Adontehene, Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, who attended the ceremony, welcomed the initiative after being briefed on the scope of the project.

He described the development as timely and expressed optimism that the market would greatly benefit traders, particularly market women in the municipality.

The Adontehene commended the government for the initiative and expressed hope that the project would contribute to improved livelihoods and sustainable economic growth in the area.

Work on the 24-Hour Economy Market is expected to commence immediately, with municipal authorities pledging to ensure the facility is completed to standard and equipped to support businesses operating at all hours.
