Gabon President applauds Ghana's automotive growth during Zonda Tec visit

Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has praised Ghana’s growing automotive industry, describing Zonda Tec Ghana Limited’s operations as a reflection of Africa’s potential to build its own manufacturing capacity.

The Gabonese leader made the remarks during a tour of the company’s assembly plant in Tema on Thursday July 30, 2026, where he observed vehicle production processes and received briefings on Zonda Tec’s local content strategy, skills training and expansion plans.

The visit highlighted Ghana’s efforts to move beyond vehicle imports and develop a stronger automotive value chain that creates jobs, builds technical expertise and supports local industries.

Zonda Tec Ghana CEO, Madam Yang Yang, said the company’s mission extends beyond vehicle assembly, stressing that its focus is on developing people and strengthening the country’s industrial base.

“We are not merely assembling vehicles. We are assembling futures,” she said.

She explained that the company operates three assembly plants in Ghana, producing passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks. The operations directly employ more than 600 people while supporting additional jobs across the supply chain.

President Nguema also expressed interest in the company’s efforts to develop local skills.

Madam Yang Yang noted that Zonda Tec has partnered with universities and trained hundreds of technicians in automotive engineering, diagnostics and other specialised areas.

She added that the company’s technical academy is helping prepare young Ghanaians for opportunities in the automotive sector.

Zonda Tec said its operations align with Ghana’s broader ambition to promote local production, reduce dependence on imports and build industries capable of competing across Africa.
