Chief fined six rams by Kumasi Traditional Council

The Chief of Asafo, Akyamfuo Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, has been fined six rams by the Kumasi Traditional Council over his decision to enstool a Dikrohene for Tabere despite an injunction on the stool.

The fine was imposed during a meeting of the Council on Monday, August 3, 2026, after the chief admitted that he had gone ahead with the enstoolment and had not reversed the decision.

According to a report by Opemsuo.com, the Tabere stool remains under injunction because of a pending Great Oath case.

A committee investigating the matter informed the Council that the Akyamfuo had gone ahead with the enstoolment despite being cautioned against it.

The report indicated that when the chief was questioned before the Council, he admitted the claims and confirmed that he had not cancelled the enstoolment.

"You should have cancelled the enstoolment after the committee drew your attention to it," Otumfuo said.

The Council considered the action an act of defiance and disrespect, resulting in a fine of 12 rams.

However, following a plea for leniency, the punishment was reduced to six rams.
