Four Ugandan athletes have come under scrutiny after failing to return home with their colleagues following the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

The boxers, Ibrahim Kemis (20), Nuhu Batte (22), Emily Nakalema (32), and Angel Katushabe (21), were scheduled to fly back to Uganda on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, but did not board the flight.

Uganda’s team manager, Godwin Kayangwe, earlier stated that he was unaware of the reasons behind their disappearance.

Sports media outlet NBS Sports reported that one of the missing boxers revealed the athletes intended to seek asylum and continue their boxing careers in a country they believed offered better training facilities and opportunities than Uganda.

The whereabouts of these athletes remain unknown as they attempt to survive abroad.
