2024 Defeat: Why I chose peace over a court fight - Kpemka explains

Former Tempane Member of Parliament(MP), Joseph Kpemka, has revealed that he could have requested a recount of the 2024 parliamentary election results to improve his figures but chose to accept the outcome in the interest of peace.

Speaking on Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM about his defeat, Lawyer Kpemka said he believed there were circumstances surrounding the election that contributed to his loss, but he decided not to challenge the results.

“There was a conspiracy of faith that happened, and that is the reason why I lost, but I accepted it,” he said.

He explained that although he had the option of requesting a recount, he decided that preserving peace was more important than pursuing a dispute over the election results.

“I could have asked for a recount to push my numbers, but I chose peace over everything,” he stated.

According to Lawyer Kpemka, he accepted the verdict of the electorate because he believes the decision of voters must ultimately be respected.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God, so I thanked them and left,” he said.

Despite accepting the outcome, the former MP maintained that his record in development remains stronger than that of the NDC candidate who defeated him, Madam Lydia Kpemka.

He stressed that his assessment was based specifically on development delivered to the Tempane constituency during his tenure.

“I do not mark my own script, but I have no doubt that if it is about development, then my wife, Hon. Madam Lydia, has not done better than I did,” he stated.

Lawyer Kpemka said he had undertaken several development projects in the constituency during his time as MP and remained confident that his record could stand comparison.

“I have done lots of development in Tempane,” he added.
