The Accra High Court has adjourned the bail application of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi‑Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to October 15, 2026.

According to multiple reports, lawyers for Wontumi were expected to move the application on August 19, 2026, but both his lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, and the accused were absent.

The NPP’s Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako, was, however, present in court.

Court officials informed the parties that the trial judge was unavailable this week, resulting in the adjournment.

Speaking to journalists after the hearing, Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Justice Srem Sai, confirmed that the case had indeed been adjourned.

"Today was supposed to be the hearing of Chairman Wontumi's bail application case, but it has been adjourned to October 15," he said.

Chairman Wontumi is currently serving a 20‑year jail term handed down by the Accra High Court after his conviction on illegal mining‑related offences.
