'Deliberate attempt to undermine A-G' - Gyamfi jabs Afenyo-Markin over GoldBod claims

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected claims that the institution failed to provide the Auditor-General with complete financial information for its 2025 accounts.

His response follows comments by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who questioned GoldBod’s reported GH₵5.44 billion overall surplus and suggested that the Auditor-General may not have received the full financial picture of the institution’s operations.

Speaking during the government’s accountability series on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Sammy Gyamfi said the Auditor-General had unrestricted access to all relevant documents during the audit.

“They now claim that the Auditor-General did not have access to the full picture concerning the operations of GoldBod. This position betrays either a lack of understanding of how an external audit is conducted, or a deliberate determination to undermine yet another independent state institution when its findings do not suit their narratives,” he said.

GoldBod made GH¢5.4bn surplus, not losses – Sammy Gyamfi

According to the Auditor-General’s report, GoldBod recorded an operational surplus of GH₵909.7 million and an overall surplus of GH₵5.44 billion for the 2025 financial year.

Sammy Gyamfi challenged the media to verify the claim with the Auditor-General, insisting that all documents requested by the audit team were provided and queries raised in the management letter were satisfactorily addressed.

He said the audit report contained no adverse findings against GoldBod, including any findings on alleged losses, procurement breaches or violations of the Public Financial Management Act.

Sammy Gyamfi described the claims of incomplete disclosure as an attempt to undermine the credibility of the Auditor-General’s work and urged critics to rely on the findings contained in the official audit report.
