UG to launch first-ever University Cycling Club at PRURide 2026 Fun Ride

The University of Ghana (UG) Sports and Wellness Directorate will launch the “UG Cycling Club,” the first-ever university cycling club in Ghana, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, as part of the 2026 PRUFunRide.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Dr. Austin Luguterah, Director of the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate, underscored the importance of developing cycling talent at the university level and commended Prudential for its role in supporting the sport's growth.

“Nurturing talent at the university stage for cycling is important, and we thank Prudential for being a catalyst for that,” he said.

With the club set to take off, the Directorate is positioning PRURide as a springboard for cultivating student interest and competitive potential in cycling.

The initiative marks a significant step towards promoting and developing cycling within Ghana’s university system.

The PRUFunRide takes place on Saturday, August 22, 2026 on the University of Ghana Campus starting from Diaspora Hall, 7am.

The event is expected to bring together the Minister of Sports and Recreation, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Director-General of the National Sports Authority, CEO and staff of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, corporate organisations, cycling enthusiasts, students, and members of the general public.
