Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School
Former Upper East Regional Minister under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's administration, Tangoba Abayage, has criticised the management of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School (BOGISS) over the alleged rape of a 14-year-old student by two security guards.
Abayage, who is also a former Ghanaian Ambassador to Italy and a gender advocate, expressed her concerns in a letter shared on social media.
The letter outlines measures reportedly taken by the school following an investigation into the alleged incident.
According to the letter, the school decided to place the student on day status for one academic year, refer her to the Guidance and Counselling Unit for counselling and require her parents to take her for medical attention and submit a medical report to the school.
The letter, signed by the headmistress, Gifty Ayamba and copied to the Municipal Director of Education, the School Disciplinary Committee and the student's personal file, also cited the Ghana Education Service Code of Conduct for Students in Pre-Tertiary Institutions.
However, Abayage has expressed dissatisfaction with the measures taken by the school, questioning why the student was subjected to disciplinary measures following the alleged incident.

“So, you have two of your security men allegedly rape a 14-year-old student of your school, who is on the autism spectrum and this is the best action your administration takes? What went into this decision?”
She called on the relevant authorities to intervene swiftly, ensure the withdrawal of what she described as a “bogus letter,” and allow the law to take its course against the alleged perpetrators.
Abayage also urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate the matter and call the school’s headmistress to order.
