Why Ashanti Regional Minister is trending on social media

Some social media users, particularly on Facebook, have lambasted the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, over a post that appeared to mock the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo‑Markin.

The post, sighted by GhanaWeb on August 20, 2026, was a reaction to the Government Accountability Series, during which Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod), addressed the nation on issues surrounding the ongoing GoldBod controversy, including allegations raised by the Minority.

Following this, Dr Frank Amoakohene wrote on his Facebook page, asking “Afenyo has been finished! Who is next? Is the Economist (DMB) ready to face the Lawyer(SG)? #Solid Fundamentals!"

The minister’s remark has, however, drawn sharp criticism from some Ghanaians online, condemning the post.

Others also argued that a public official should not make such comments on social media.

Some users suggested they were not surprised, claiming that if a new government takes office, similar actions would be directed at current officials.
