Ghanaian business mogul and lawyer Stephen Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben, has reportedly passed away.

The cause of his reported death is not immediately known.

His passing marks the loss of one of Ghana’s prominent entrepreneurs, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where he built a business empire spanning media, education, hospitality, finance and other sectors.

Kessben was the Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Kessben Group of Companies, an umbrella organisation with interests in several businesses.

Born on September 12, 1957, Stephen Boateng grew up at North Suntreso in Kumasi. Over the years, he established himself as an astute businessman with more than two decades of experience managing a diverse group of companies.

He was also the elder brother of Ghanaian preacher and founder of the Moments of Glory Prayer Army (MOGPA).

The Kessben Group included Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Ltd., Fosua Hotel & Conference Centre, Kessben University College, Kessben Consult, Kessben Foundation and Kessben FM Limited.

His interests also extended into the media industry, where he became a familiar name through Kessben FM and later Kessben TV and Aseda TV.

According to the company’s profile available at the Registrar General’s Department, Kessben was the sole shareholder of Kessben FM Limited, the company under which his media businesses were registered.

He also held majority shares in Multi Credit Savings and Loans Ltd.

Beyond business, Kessben was involved in philanthropy and public service.

He served as a member of the National Peace Council between 2004 and 2010, working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to coordinate peaceful responses to conflicts.

Kessben also played a role in Ghana’s education sector as Chancellor of Kessben University College.

He had an academic background in Economics and Law, earning a first-class honours degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He later obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, majoring in Finance, from the same institution.

Through his businesses, Kessben became one of the notable entrepreneurs associated with the growth of private media, education and other enterprises in the Ashanti Region.
