Isaac Boadu, a driver and survivor of the Ofankor Barrier accident, has recounted the terrifying moments leading to the crash that left 12 people dead and others seriously injured.

According to Boadu, he was transporting traders from Peace Village in Amasaman to Accra in the early hours of Thursday August 13, 2026, when the accident occurred.

In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on August 20, 2026, he said he had followed his usual routine of praying before setting off with the traders.

“I normally send traders to Accra at dawn, so on that fateful Thursday, I had my bath and said my prayers,” he recounted.

He said he had been doing the job for about eight years and had picked up most of his regular passengers from the Peace Village area.

Boadu explained that as they approached the John Teye area, he noticed heavy traffic and said to a passenger sitting beside him, identified as Alhaji, that they might arrive in Accra late.

He said his vehicle was behind a white Sprinter bus, while a yellow tipper truck was ahead of the bus.

According to him, he had stopped for about 10 seconds because of the traffic when he heard another tipper truck honking loudly from behind.

“I couldn’t move because there were cars in front of me. Within some seconds, that tipper truck which was honking crashed into my car from behind,” he said.

The impact, he said, left him disoriented and initially made him believe he was dreaming.

“I saw myself like in a dream where I was being pushed on a stretcher. After the car stopped, I realised it was not a dream but rather an accident,” he recounted.

Boadu said he attempted to get out of the vehicle but discovered that his leg was trapped underneath the seat.

He said he eventually managed to pull his leg free by force, sustaining a cut behind the leg in the process.

After escaping from the vehicle, he said, a man standing on a pavement approached him and asked whether he was from one of the vehicles that had been involved in the crash.

“I told him I’m the driver,” he said.

Boadu said the accident had devastating consequences, with some victims losing their lives and others suffering severe injuries, including amputations.

He and other injured victims were subsequently transported by ambulance to the Ga Municipal Hospital for treatment.
