The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ohio University in the United States to provide training for national service personnel across the country.

Director-General of the NSS, Ruth Dela Seddoh, said the partnership aims to provide capacity-building and professional development opportunities to equip service personnel with the skills needed for the job market.

Speaking at the National Youth Forum hosted by the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra, she said the agreement aligns with the government’s reset agenda on youth-oriented policies.

She also highlighted initiatives aimed at making agriculture more attractive to the youth, adding that special incentives would be offered to graduates who choose to undertake their national service in the agricultural sector.

Also speaking at the forum, Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Authority (YEA), Malik Basintale, said the Authority had recruited more than 90,000 Ghanaian youth into various institutions nationwide.

He said that when he assumed office, slightly more than 15,000 young Ghanaians were beneficiaries of YEA programmes.

According to him, the increase demonstrates the commitment of the John Mahama-led administration to youth-centred policies.

Basintale added that the YEA would partner with the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat to roll out initiatives aimed at onboarding more young people onto the YEA portal.
