The Ashaiman District Court has remanded a 43-year-old soldier, WOII Dzisenu, for allegedly killing a 45-year-old Abdul Shaban at Mawugbezibe, near Afienya in the Grater Accra Region.
According to a report by myjoyoline.com on August 20, 2026, the accused is facing a murder charge under Section 46 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960(Act 29).
However, he did not enter a plea when he appeared in court.
Derick Parden Eshun who presided over the proceedings, directed that the accused be kept in police custody until August 27, 2026, the same date which he is to appear before the court.

The prosecution led by Inspector Henry Tetteh Nartey, told the court that, the matter was initially reported at the Afienya police station on August 13, 2025.
The Inspector further said that WOII Dzisenu and another soldier, WO1 Yamoah Mark, both attached to the Base Ammunition Depot (BAD) at Michel Camp, went to the station after an incident on their property at Mawugbezibe.
The prosecution said, the soldiers told investigators that an unidentified individual had confronted WOII Dzisenu and attempted to forcefully take his M16 rifle from him.
The confrontation according to the prosecution, allegedly ended with WOII firing the rifle at the man.
Officers who went to the scene with the soldiers reportedly found Shaban motionless on the ground.

He had what was seen as a gunshot injury around his upper chest and neck area.
Shaban was declared dead at the scene, and his body was transported to the Teme General Hospital mortuary for preservation and post mortem examination.
The police took possession of the M16 riffle, with serial number 000470-11, as well as its magazine and ammunition, for further investigation.
A post-mortem, conducted by Dr Eric Dunfeh, a pathologist at the Tema General Hospital, revealed that the deceased had died from perforating gunshot wound to the heart.
A bullet recovered from Shaban body was sent to the Police Forensic Lab for ballistic analysis.
Inspector Nartey told the court that the pathologist’s findings indicated that the injury was caused by a near-contact, angled gunshot.
The report also indicated that the person who fired the shsot was likely positioned above the deceased.
The inspect further said that both soldiers subsequently made written caution statements to investigate the presence of an independent witness.
He also said that the police forwarded the case docket to the Attorney-General’s Office for advice.
As a result of the advised received, WOII Dzisenu was formerly charged with murder and brought before the Ashaiman District court, where a directive was issued for his remand in police custody till the adjourned date which is August 27, 2026
The charge remains an allegation at this stage, and WOII, presumed innocent until the court proves that he is guilty.
