The President of the Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement-Africa (PTAAM), Ebenezer Havor, has slammed the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin and what he describes as his "shameful cartel" over attempts to discredit the performance of the Goldbod activities.

According to Havor, the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration failed woefully to effectively manage the Gold for Oil policy, leading to inefficiencies and lack of transparency in the sector.

He said it is therefore shameful that the same group of people who superintended over the poor management of the initiative are now desperately trying to undermine the impressive performance of the Goldbod under its Chief Executive Officer, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi.

"The NPP administration in the past was unable to effectively manage Gold for Oil. Today, the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his shameful cartel are trying hard to discredit the performance of Goldbod under the CEOship of Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi. It's a shame," Havor stated in an interview on August 20, 2026.

Havor indicated that since assuming office, Gyamfi has brought renewed energy, transparency and accountability to the operations of the Goldbod programme, resulting in improved revenue mobilization and better management of Ghana's gold resources.

He noted that available data shows significant improvement in the implementation of Goldbod, contrary to the misleading narrative being pushed by the Minority in Parliament.

The PTAAM President urged Ghanaians to disregard what he termed as baseless and politically motivated attacks, stressing that they are calculated to distract the current management from delivering on its mandate.

He further called on the management of Goldbod to remain focused and continue with its reforms to ensure that Ghana derives maximum benefit from its gold resources.

Havor reiterated that PTAAM will continue to monitor and expose attempts by any group to sabotage national institutions for partisan political gains.
