Dr Bawumia has commended Adwoa Safo for her role in Kantanka's funeral
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has commended former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo and daughter of the late Apostle Safo Kwadwo Kantanka, for her role in ensuring that her father’s funeral was held despite the controversies surrounding it.
According to Dr Bawumia, although several issues arose in connection with the funeral of the late leader of the Kristo Asafo Church, Adwoa Safo stood her ground and ensured that the funeral proceeded.
Speaking during a courtesy call paid to him on August 21, 2026, Dr Bawumia said he was concerned when the issues surrounding the funeral emerged.

“The issues that came up got us all worried, but I want to commend you for standing up to conduct the funeral. Thank you for what you did. They say you are a woman of strength. I also came for the thanksgiving service and we all saw the rainbow, so we know that Apostle is happy,” he said.
Prior to the funeral, one of Apostle Safo’s sons, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, dragged the matter to court and sought an injunction to prevent the funeral from taking place.
The legal action generated significant public discussion and controversy. However, the funeral eventually proceeded successfully.
