Bawumia commends Adwoa Safo for steering Apostle Safo’s funeral despite challenges

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate for the 2028 general elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has commended former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, for her composure, firmness and leadership in steering the funeral arrangements of her late father, Apostle Emeritus Professor Kwadwo Safo, through a period of initial misunderstanding and uncertainty.

Dr Bawumia said he was particularly impressed by the orderly and dignified manner in which the family conducted the funeral and ensured that the celebrated industrialist and inventor received a befitting farewell.

He made the remarks when Sarah Adwoa Safo and members of the family called on him at his residence at Tse Addo to express their appreciation for his presence and participation in the funeral and related activities.

According to Dr Bawumia, he had been concerned about the disagreements that initially surrounded the funeral arrangements and feared that the situation could degenerate into chaos.

He, however, praised Adwoa Safo for remaining resolute and providing the leadership needed to ensure that the funeral proceeded in an organised and dignified manner.

He said he was particularly moved by the appearance of a rainbow during the funeral, which he interpreted as a comforting sign that the departed Apostle had been received peacefully and was pleased with the manner in which his final rites had been conducted.

Dr Bawumia said the successful conclusion of the funeral demonstrated the family's ability to rise above the challenges that confronted the transition and focus on giving their patriarch a befitting send-off.

Adwoa Safo recounts initial uncertainty

Speaking on behalf of the family, Sarah Adwoa Safo expressed profound appreciation to Dr Bawumia for honouring the family's invitation to participate in the funeral.

She explained that, because of the misunderstandings that initially characterised the funeral arrangements, some members of the church and sympathisers had become uncertain about whether Dr Bawumia would eventually attend.

She said the uncertainty was heightened by his absence from some of the earlier funeral activities, including those at Gomoa Mpota and the Independence Square.

Adwoa Safo said she nevertheless continued to assure the church members and other well-wishers that Dr Bawumia would honour the funeral, adding that they were particularly excited when they eventually saw him in Kumasi during the thanksgiving service.

Adwoa Safo further disclosed that her father had, before his passing, spoken to her about the difficulties that could accompany his transition.

According to her, the misunderstandings, disagreements and challenges that eventually emerged around the funeral arrangements were issues her father had anticipated and discussed with her during the final days of his life.

She said her father repeatedly encouraged her to remain courageous, firm and steadfast in the face of adversity.

Adwoa Safo noted that those words became a source of strength during the difficult period, adding that the challenges ultimately fortified her resolve to remain focused on ensuring that her father received the dignified and befitting farewell he deserved.

She said the peaceful conclusion of the funeral was therefore a source of great satisfaction to the family and the church community, particularly after the difficulties that initially threatened to overshadow the transition.

The family subsequently expressed its gratitude to Dr Bawumia for his support, presence and solidarity throughout the funeral period.
