GFA ExCo member gives update on appointment of new Black Stars coach

Executive Council Member (ExCo) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Gideon Fosu, has confirmed that the association is actively in talks to appoint a new Black Stars head coach.

According to him, the GFA is negotiating contract terms with several coaches and hopes to reach an agreement soon, so, that the new coach can begin work.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Fosu assured Ghanaians that a coach will be in place before the team’s next competitive fixtures, particularly the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

“I think what’s there for Ghanaians to know is that we’ll definitely play Senegal and we have to play the qualifiers, right? What I can say on authority is that we are definitely going to have a coach who is in charge of the team.

"We are still talking, we are still negotiating. I am sure that at the right time, the president of the FA will announce who the next coach of the Black Stars will be,” he said.

However, Fosu did not provide details on how talks with current coach Carlos Queiroz are progressing, as his contract ends in August 2026.

Reports suggest negotiations have stalled, with Queiroz reportedly demanding a $150,000 salary.

This impasse has prompted the association to explore alternative options should an agreement not be reached, especially with the 2027 AFCON qualifiers set to begin in September 2026.
