'Cutting corners is not part of Islam' - Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission leader cautions

The Greater Accra Regional President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Alhajj Adam Kofi Yamoah, has urged Muslims to uphold peace, integrity and fairness in their dealings with others.

Speaking in a sideline interview during the 31st Annual Regional Conference of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at Bustan-E-Ahmad in Ashomang, Alhajj Yamoah stressed the importance of religious gatherings in strengthening the spirituality and moral conduct of Muslims.

According to him, such programmes provide an opportunity for members of the Muslim community, particularly those with limited knowledge of the faith, to learn from religious teachings and improve their conduct.

“If you are a Muslim, as a community we belong to a community, and we believe that to always renew or rekindle our spirituality, we need to gather. In school, you know some people are good, and others are not, and you don't have to concentrate on the good ones alone, who are normally few.

“You will always have to ensure that the majority who are less knowledgeable are brought on board. And that is exactly what we are doing here,” he said.

Alhajj Yamoah explained that the lessons and speeches delivered during such gatherings are expected to influence the lives of participants and strengthen their commitment to practising Islam.

“We try to organise such programmes so that most of us will be here and listen to speeches. As we listen, we learn, and those lessons will definitely shape our lives, and our spirituality will grow.

“Once your spirituality goes up, it means that it is something you are going to practise in your life, and therefore you transform yourself,” he added.

The Greater Accra regional president also condemned actions that could create tension between Muslims and people of other faiths.

He argued that such conduct contradicts the fundamental principle of Islam, which he said is centred on peace.

“This is not supposed to happen at all. Because Islam, by itself, means peace. So anything that will not bring about peace should not be counted as such. And a statement like that should not even be made.

“The fact of the matter is that if we are Muslims, you are supposed to be a perfect example. You are the one who is supposed to let others know what Islam is all about,” he said.

He described any conflict between a Muslim and a person of another faith as unfortunate and urged Muslims to demonstrate the values of Islam through their actions.

“Basically, what I will say is that what happened between the Muslim and the other faith was uncalled for,” he added.

Alhajj Yamoah further advised Muslims to avoid corruption, bribery and attempts to bypass due processes when seeking services or assistance from government institutions.

He emphasised that Muslims should follow the appropriate procedures and rely on their merit rather than attempting to influence officials through improper means.

“Service to mankind is also service to God. So as a Muslim, you should be the one who should be giving and not giving anything in return to a fellow human being.

“If you must make sure that whatever you are going for, you have followed the due process. If you are going to look for money or anything else from any ministry or agency, what you have to do is ensure that you follow the due process and make sure that everything is in place. You don't need to cut corners,” he stated.

According to him, bribery and other forms of corruption have no place in Islam.

“Cutting corners is not part of Islam, and you should ensure that you put your acts together and make sure that you are right and you deserve it, and so you go in asking for it without recourse to giving out bribes so that you will be treated differently. Islam does not support that,” he added.
