Paul Afoko files nomination to contest NPP National Chairmanship

Awentami Paul Afoko has officially filed his nomination to contest the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a statement dated August 25, 2026, Afoko said he was seeking to return to the position with humility, gratitude and a strong belief in the party’s ability to rebuild and return to power.

“Today, I have formally submitted my nomination to serve once again as National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

He stressed, however, that filing his nomination did not make him the National Chairman, noting that the final decision rested with the party’s delegates.

According to Afoko, he had spent the past several months engaging party stakeholders across the country, including regional and constituency executives, polling station officers, communicators, young party members, women, Members of Parliament, former executives and grassroots supporters.

He said the engagements had revealed widespread frustrations but also a strong desire among members for unity and a revitalised party.

“I have heard your frustrations. I have heard your hopes. And I have heard something even more powerful: The NPP wants to come together again,” he stated.

Afoko said party members were demanding an NPP that was disciplined, organised and respected, while calling for greater attention to the grassroots beyond election periods.

He added that the ultimate objective was to build a party capable of returning to government in 2028.

“My fellow Patriots, that is why I am here,” he said.

Afoko said his decision to contest was not motivated by a desire for a title, pointing out that he had previously occupied the National Chairmanship and understood both its responsibilities and consequences.

“I seek your mandate because I believe that at this moment in the history of our Party, my experience, my convictions and the lessons of the past can help us build the NPP that the future requires,” he stated.
