Mother orders arrest of son over alleged theft of GH¢28,000, fridge and TV for girlfriend

A mother has reportedly caused the arrest of her son, identified as Samuel, after accusing him of stealing GH¢28,000, a television set, a refrigerator and other household items and allegedly giving them to his girlfriend.

The woman, identified as Auntie Ama, made the disclosure during an appearance on a domestic affairs programme on Lawson TV.

According to her, she lost her Ghana Card in a fire outbreak at their home and subsequently relied heavily on her son to conduct transactions that required identification documents.

She said she entrusted Samuel with GH¢28,000 to conduct a business transaction on her behalf, but he returned the days later claiming that he had been robbed.

Auntie Ama said she became suspicious of his account and decided to involve the authorities.

She explained that during interrogation, her son allegedly admitted that the money had not been stolen but had been given to his girlfriend, along with some household appliances.

“It was during interrogation at this point that he opened up that he had a girlfriend at Berekum and he had given her the money, as well as my brand-new fridge, a TV set and decoder,” she said.

Samuel, who appeared on the programme, admitted to giving the items and money to the girlfriend.

He explained that he met the woman, identified as Maame Yaa, on social media and subsequently developed a romantic relationship with her.

“I met her on TikTok and after engaging her, I took her number and that is where we started the relationship,” he said.

When asked what initially attracted him to the woman, Samuel said her physical appearance caught his attention, particularly her bowed legs.

The incident has sparked discussion about the extent to which individuals may go to support romantic partners and the consequences of using money or property entrusted to them for personal purposes.
