'Even Jesus Christ can't fix Ghana' - Fruit sellers' queen mother

Madam Beatrice Sowash, queen mother of fruit sellers at the Bohyeba Market, has argued that Ghana’s challenges will not end simply by changing political leaders, saying the attitudes and actions of ordinary citizens also contribute to the country’s problems.

She said even the election of Jesus Christ as president would not necessarily end the suffering of Ghanaians.

“Even if we bring Jesus Christ to become President, we’ll still suffer as a country,” she said.

Speaking in a video sighted by GhanaWeb on August 26, 2026, Madam Sowash said the country’s problems should not be viewed solely through the lens of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), or President John Dramani Mahama and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

She said Ghanaians must also examine their own behaviour and show greater concern for the younger generation.

To illustrate her point, Madam Sowash recounted an incident at the market involving a woman who allegedly packaged rotten fruits attractively for sale to schoolchildren.

According to her, she confronted and beat the woman after discovering that she was selling rotten fruits, describing the practice as an example of the harmful attitudes exhibited by some citizens.

Madam Sowash maintained that addressing Ghana’s difficulties requires more than political change, insisting that citizens must also take responsibility for their actions and contribute to building a better society.
