With just eight days to go before the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League bursts into life, anticipation is building for another season of goals, drama, rivalries and unforgettable moments.
But before the first whistle is blown, there is plenty of history to look back on. From lightning-fast goals and incredible scoring feats to extraordinary unbeaten runs and historic title-winning streaks, the Ghanaian top flight has produced records that have stood the test of time.
As the countdown to the new season begins, here are ten remarkable Ghana Premier League records since the national top flight began in 1958.
1. Fastest goal – 14 seconds
Karela United striker Diawisie Taylor holds the record for the fastest goal in Ghana Premier League history.
Taylor found the net just 14 seconds into Karela United's 3-0 victory over Ebusua Dwarfs in April 2018.
2. Fastest hat-trick – six minutes
One of the most remarkable scoring feats belongs to Opoku Nti.
The Asante Kotoko legend scored three times in the 54th, 55th and 60th minutes against Hearts of Oak on August 7, 1983, completing his hat-trick in just six minutes.
Kotoko eventually lost the famous Super Clash 4-3, despite Nti's extraordinary comeback.
3First player to win three consecutive Golden Boots – Dan Owusu
Bofoakwa Tano legend Dan Owusu became the first player to win the Ghana League’s Goal King award three consecutive times, achieving the feat in 1974, 1975 and 1976.
Owusu established himself as the country’s leading goalscorer during that period, finishing as the league’s top scorer in three successive seasons.
Owusu scored 28 goals in 1976, after previously scoring 24 and 26 goals in the two preceding seasons.
4. Most goals by a club – 72
Hearts of Oak produced one of the most dominant attacking seasons in 2002.
The Phobians scored 72 goals in 30 league matches, averaging 2.4 goals per game, while conceding only 18.
5. Longest unbeaten run – 44 matches
Hearts also own the record for the longest unbeaten run in the Premier League.
The Accra giants went 44 league matches without defeat between 2002 and 2004 before Real Sportive finally ended the incredible streak.
6. Most points in a season – 78
Hearts' remarkable 2002 campaign also produced a record 78 points.
They won 25 of their 30 matches, drew three and lost just twice while scoring 72 goals on their way to the title.
7. Most consecutive league titles – Hearts of Oak: Six
Hearts of Oak hold the Ghanaian top-flight record for the most consecutive league titles, winning six championships in a row between 1996/97 and 2001/02.
The Phobians began their remarkable run in the 1996/97 season and maintained their grip on the league for six successive campaigns, completing the historic streak with another title in 2001/02.
8. Most goals in one match – six
The latest addition to the record books came spectacularly.
Samuel Attah Kumi scored an incredible six goals for Bibiani Gold Stars in their 8-3 victory over Eleven Wonders on the final day of the 2025/26 season.
He scored in the 35th, 38th, 47th, 52nd, 65th and 90+2nd minutes, becoming the first player to score six goals in a single Ghana Premier League match.
9. Most clean sheets by a team in a season – 24
Hearts of Oak set a new Ghana Premier League record during the 2025/26 season, keeping an extraordinary 24 clean sheets in 34 matches.
The Phobians kept a clean sheet in roughly 71% of their league matches, while conceding just 15 goals throughout the campaign.
Interestingly, Hearts did not win the league despite their remarkable defensive record. They finished third, while Medeama claimed the title.
10. Most league titles – Asante Kotoko
Asante Kotoko are the most successful club in Ghana’s top-flight history, with 25 league titles.
The Porcupine Warriors have won the championship more times than any other Ghanaian club, with their most recent title coming in the 2021/22 season.
Their closest rivals are Hearts of Oak, who have 21 league titles, making the Super Clash rivalry even more significant when viewed through the lens of Ghanaian football history.
