Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has pledged to work closely with the Minority in Parliament and build consensus to help advance the government's Reset Agenda as he takes over from Mahama Ayariga as the new Majority Leader.

Agalga made the remark during proceedings in Parliament on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

He assured the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and members of the Minority Caucus that his leadership approach would focus on consultation, engagement and compromise where necessary.

“I want to assure Honourable Afenyo-Markin and the entire Minority bench that my approach in this House would hinge first on consensus building,” he said.

According to the new Majority Leader, he was prepared to make compromises where necessary to ensure smooth cooperation between the Majority and Minority sides of the House.

“I mean, we can make compromises as and when necessary, and I assure you, I'll give it to you. I would reach out, I would consult,” he stated.

Agalga, however, stressed that while he would pursue cooperation with the Minority, he would also work to ensure that the government's agenda was achieved.

“But at the same time, I would work to ensure that the Reset Agenda of our President is accomplished for the betterment of all of us,” he added.

James Agalga takes over the Majority Leader position following the nomination of his predecessor, Mahama Ayariga, as Minister-designate for Local Government.
