'Big liar!' – Dan Quaye fires Harry Zakour over $100,000 payment claim

Former Accra Hearts of Oak player Dan Quaye has denied claims by the club’s former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Harry Zakour that players received $100,000 each after clinching the 2000 CAF Champions League.

Zakour had stated that all 18 players in the squad were paid from about $3 million in proceeds generated from the club’s Champions League success, challenging any player who disputed his account to come forward.

Quaye rejected the claims and recounted how the money was shared among the players during camping in Accra.

“They brought that; I think at that time we were playing a lot in Accra and camping with a men’s group. I think they gave the money to the team manager, either Sabaku or someone else; I can’t recall clearly. It’s been a long time. So when you went to his room, you signed, and then they gave you your money,” he said in an interview with Sporty FM.

When asked if the money given was up to $100,000 as claimed, the ex-player, who was part of the squad, described it as an absolute lie.

He noted that the amount they received was not even up to $5,000, calling out Zakour to comport himself or risk his wrath.

“They are big liars. They shouldn’t lie because Ghanaians don’t deserve that. That’s how the big men in Ghana are. Which hundred thousand? I pray that God gives me that kind of money. Even when you went to him, the money he gave you didn’t reach five thousand dollars. What are they saying? They shouldn’t let us be angry, master,” he fumed.

Quaye becomes the second player to deny the claims, after team captain Yaw Amankwah-Mireku also spoke out against them. Zakour, however, is yet to respond to their rebuttals.
