28-year-old allegedly shot dead during military assault

A 28-year-old man, identified as Douglas Acheampong, has reportedly been shot dead during a clash involving persons believed to be military officers at Akyem Hemang in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.

The incident, which allegedly occurred during a dispute over a mining concession belonging to Narawa Mining Company, has left residents shocked and raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the young man's death.

According to an eyewitness account shared by ASK GHANA on X, on August 28, 2026, Douglas was at an Indomie joint when a man believed to be a soldier allegedly approached him and slapped him.

The eyewitness said Douglas attempted to fight back but later tried to flee when the confrontation escalated.

“He was sitting at an Indomie joint when a soldier slapped him. He tried to fight back before attempting to flee, but he was shot at,” the eyewitness recounted.

The shooting reportedly occurred on Thursday, August 27 2026, during a confrontation involving individuals believed to be soldiers who had allegedly taken over the mining company's concession.

Details surrounding what triggered the confrontation remain unclear, while the identity of the person who allegedly fired the shot has yet to be officially established.
