Asante Kotoko have been crowned champions of the 2026 Democracy Cup after beating arch-rivals Hearts of Oak 4-1 on penalties following a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The two sides produced a closely contested encounter but neither could find the breakthrough during 90 minutes, sending the much-anticipated clash straight into a penalty shootout.
Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim emerged as the hero, making two crucial saves to help the Porcupine Warriors secure victory and claim the trophy.

The pressure intensified when Amankwah Baafi failed to convert Hearts' third penalty, leaving Kotoko one successful kick away from victory.
Morofing Donzo made no mistake with Kotoko's final attempt, sealing a 4-1 shootout triumph and sparking celebrations among the Porcupine Warriors.
The match itself had produced few clear-cut chances, with both teams maintaining a clean sheet through regulation time.
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad was also involved in one of the key moments during the game, making a big save in the 58th minute to deny Antwi from close range.
In the end, however, it was Kotoko who held their nerve from the spot to lift the 2026 Democracy Cup.
