What happened after Donkor left office? Amidu questions OSP's focus on former Power Minister

Anti corruption campaigner, Martin Amidu has questioned the focus on former Power Minister Dr Kwabena Donkor in the Asante Kwaku Berko-AKSA Ghana bribery investigation, pointing to financial transfers that he says occurred after Donkor had left office.

Donkor served as Minister of Power from December 2014 to December 2015 under President John Dramani Mahama.

Amidu said US court records show that the bribery transaction continued beyond that period, with transfers of funds to Ghana taking place between January and December 2016.

He therefore questioned why Donkor has become the main political figure identified by the OSP in connection with the case.

“The US Court Records show that the bribery deal moved from conspiracy to consummation with transfers of huge funds to Ghana between January 2016 and December 2016 when Dr Kwabena Donkor’s appointment had been terminated by the then President Mahama,” Amidu said in an open letter.

He said the timeline should raise questions about what happened at the Ministry of Power after Donkor’s departure.

“President Mahama and the protected Kissi Agyebeng should tell the public whether the Ministry of Power was under autopilot between January 2016 and 7 January 2017 without any responsible Minister?” he asked.

Amidu also questioned the identity of a politically exposed person referred to in the US court records whom he described as an alleged relative of Mahama.

“What of the politically exposed person referred to severally in the US Court Records who is an alleged relative of President Mahama, does he have a name?” he asked.

Amidu said these issues should form part of the investigation into the Ghanaian dimension of the case instead of concentrating attention on Donkor.
