The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has refuted reports that it is facing major funding challenges that have led to delays in its operations.
It clarified that the organisation has a formalised system that ensures robust funding for licensed aggregators to purchase and aggregate gold before delivering it to GoldBod.
In a statement shared on GoldBod’s official X account on August 29, 2026, the organisation said: “GoldBod has clarified reports suggesting that licensed gold buyers are facing funding delays and that this reflects a financing challenge within the Board. That is not the case.

“GoldBod’s trade-financing framework provides direct financing only to licensed Aggregators for the purchase and aggregation of gold for onward delivery to GoldBod. As of the date of the statement, two licensed Aggregators operate within this framework.”
The organisation further explained the measures it has put in place to prevent financing challenges, as alleged by some individuals, from undermining its operations.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring full accountability and transparency in its operations in the best interests of the public.
“Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers are not automatically entitled to GoldBod financing. Where they require working capital, they may seek financing from the relevant Aggregator. That is a commercial credit arrangement between the Aggregator and the downstream buyer, not a funding obligation of GoldBod.
“Importantly, GoldBod introduced enhanced financing and risk-management procedures effective August 1, 2026, including KYC, due diligence, credit assessments, formal financing agreements, repayment obligations and appropriate security requirements.
“These measures are not a withdrawal of financing support. They are prudent controls designed to protect public funds, strengthen accountability and ensure that financing is extended to eligible and creditworthy participants,” the statement added.
GoldBod noted that gold purchases remain ongoing, with the Board continuing to purchase and aggregate artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) gold through its licensed buyers.
It added that it remains financially robust.
