IGP promotes police officer for bravery during viral Aboso fire outbreak

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Police Headquarters to the rank of Chief Inspector in recognition of his bravery during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.

The fire outbreak occurred on August 26, 2026, when several shops at the Aboso Main Lorry Station were engulfed in flames, resulting in significant damage to property.

Inspector Atubra, who was the first police officer to arrive at the scene, immediately took action to assist people trapped in the affected area.

“He helped evacuate victims from the danger zone and ensured they were moved to safety as the fire continued to spread.

“His swift response, courage and efforts to save lives and property were highly commended by witnesses at the scene,” a police statement on August 28, 2026 said.

Following the incident, a recommendation was made for his promotion in recognition of his exceptional bravery and commitment to duty.
