Workers of Eikwe hospital call off strike
The District Chief Executive for Ellembelle in the Western Region, Joseph Agyekum, together with the District Coordinating Director and the District Health Director, has intervened to end the ongoing industrial action at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Eikwe in the District.
The intervention meeting, held with the management of the hospital on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Eikwe Hospital, resulted in the initiation of payment of part of the outstanding provident fund, which was at the heart of the staff's grievances.
During the meeting, the Staff Welfare leadership raised concerns regarding their welfare and conditions of service, which were acknowledged by the district leadership.
The District Chief Executive, Joseph Agyekum appealed to the staff to resume work while their concerns were addressed through dialogue.
To ensure a lasting resolution, a roadmap has been established for further engagements, including engagements with the Board, between the Board and Management, and a joint meeting involving the Board, Management and the Staff Welfare leadership.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with assurance from the Welfare leadership that it would call off the strike.
St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Eikwe, is the largest health facility in the Ellembelle District, apart from the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, and its full operation is critical to healthcare delivery within the district and beyond.
