Police, MTTD officer clash over alleged extortion from trotro drivers

A video circulating on social media has captured a Ghana Police Service officer in a physical confrontation with a Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) officer.

According to footage shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on September 8, 2026, the incident reportedly stemmed from allegations that the MTTD officer was unlawfully extorting money from commercial drivers.

The 18-second clip shows the police officer confronting and restraining his colleague beside a white commercial minibus, commonly known as a trotro, marked with a yellow stripe.

The video was captioned: “Ghana Police Service officer arrests an MTTD officer for allegedly collecting money unlawfully from trotro drivers.”

At one point, the MTTD officer is heard instructing passengers to alight from the bus, while the police officer insists they remain seated.

The footage further captures the police officer attempting to place the MTTD officer inside the trotro, which he resists.

"Sit down and let's go!" the police officer is heard saying.
