Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called on Shandong Gold Group to replicate its acclaimed green mining model in Ghana.
The Minister made the call when he visited the headquarters of Shandong Gold in Jinan, China, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. He praised the Chinese mining giant for prioritising environmental protection, tree planting and worker safety in its operations.
“We have seen your model – the green model – planting trees, putting environmental protection and safety at the top. That is exactly what we want to replicate in Ghana. Sustainable mining is non-negotiable,” he stated.
Buah also expressed surprise and delight that Shandong Gold had already been training Ghanaian workers in China, describing the initiative as a sign of the company’s long-term commitment rather than a short-term business interest.
He further urged the company to deploy modern, cost-saving technologies, including electric vehicles, to reduce operational costs and minimise the environmental impact of its activities.
The Minister assured the Group of Ghana’s readiness to deepen the partnership on a win-win basis and invited Shandong Gold to use Ghana as a base for expanding its operations across Africa.
Shandong Gold is one of China’s largest gold producers and has significant investments in Ghana’s mining sector.
