TUTAG chapters petition for extraordinary congress to consider impeachment of national executives

Several chapters of the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) have petitioned the Association’s leadership for the immediate convening of an Extraordinary National Delegate Congress to consider a motion for the impeachment and removal of the current National Executives.

The petition, dated September 7, 2026, was addressed to the Chairman of TUTAG and signed by local executives representing a number of technical universities across the country.

According to the petitioners, "the request is being made in accordance with Articles 12 and 14 of the TUTAG National Constitution, which they say provide for the convening of an Emergency Delegate Congress and establish Congress as the supreme decision-making body of the Association."

The chapters cited concerns about the conduct of the current National Executive body, particularly what they described as "alleged breaches of constitutional provisions relating to adherence to the oath of office and the supremacy of Congress."

They also expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as the National Executives’ “unproductive approach” to engaging government and relevant agencies, which they claim has contributed to several unresolved issues affecting members of the Association.

The petitioners said the situation had generated growing agitation across various campuses and resulted in members losing confidence in the current National Executive.

“It is therefore our considered position that Congress, which is the highest decision-making body of our Association, be given the opportunity to deliberate on these concerns and determine the way forward,” the petition stated.

The proposed Extraordinary Congress, according to the petition, would specifically consider and determine a motion for the impeachment and removal from office of the National Executives in accordance with the TUTAG Constitution.

The petitioners have therefore called on the local executives to treat the letter as a formal constitutional notice and demand for the convening of the Extraordinary Congress.

They further requested that immediate steps be taken to communicate the date, venue, time and modalities for the proposed congress to all TUTAG chapters.

Among those who signed the petition are the Chairman of Accra Technical University (ATU), Professor Hanson Obiri Yeboah and the Vice-Chairman, Samuel Amo Blay.

Other signatories include representatives from Bolgatanga Technical University, Cape Coast Technical University, Dr Hilla Limann Technical University, Koforidua Technical University, Kumasi Technical University, Sunyani Technical University, Takoradi Technical University and Tamale Technical University.

The petition was copied to all Congress members and the current National Executives of TUTAG.
