'It's very hard to find a goalscorer in Africa' - Zdravko Logarušić

Nations FC head coach Zdravko Logarušić is confident his side can overcome FC Diarra and progress to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Ghanaian club will host the Malian side on Sunday, September 13,2026, with Logarušić calling on supporters to turn up in numbers as Nations FC continues its continental campaign.

The Croatian coach believes the team has learned from its first experience of playing outside Ghana and is now better prepared for the challenge.

“70-80% of our players travelled outside the country for the first time. It was the first time they had a passport and travelled on an airplane. All of those things, plus the pressure, affected us a bit,” he said.

“Now I think when we came home, they realised it’s nothing special and we can handle it. I’m very positive about the Sunday game,”he added.

Logarušić also dismissed concerns about the absence of a prolific goalscorer, insisting Nations FC can rely on collective effort to find the back of the net.

“It’s very hard to find a goalscorer in Africa. In every club, all of us are struggling to find someone who can score 15-20 goals per season,” he said.

“That’s teamwork. I’m expecting some boys will stand up and maybe put the ball in the net. It’s not necessary for one of them to be a top goalscorer. Let’s make a team to be a goalscorer,”he stated.

The coach said his decision to join Nations FC was driven by the opportunity to compete on the African stage and praised the depth of talent in Ghanaian football.

“I didn’t come here to play First Division, Second Division or something. I came here for a challenge to play Africa. And I know what Ghana is. Ghana is full of talent,” he added.

Logarušić believes Nations FC can make a strong impression in the competition and has set his sights on reaching the group stage.

“What I want is to represent Ghanaian football properly. I’m very, very confident we’re going to pass even the first step and even the second step. For sure, we are here to reach the group stage,” he said.
