Accra-Kumasi Expressway to create 30,000 jobs – Dr Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has said the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway is expected to create 30,000 direct and indirect jobs for Ghanaians.

The project is also expected to support industrial parks, logistics hubs and other businesses along the route.

In a post on X sighted by GhanaWeb Business on Thursday, September 10, 2026, Dr Forson said the project was not only about improving road connectivity but also about creating employment opportunities and improving the livelihoods of people along the corridor.

“The Accra-Kumasi Expressway will create 30,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing work for Ghanaians!” he wrote.

He added that the government’s investment in the road was aimed at improving connections between communities while creating better economic opportunities for citizens.

“We are investing in roads because better connections should mean better livelihoods for our people,” he said.

The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is the flagship project under the government’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme.

The six-lane, bidirectional expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Accra and Kumasi to about two hours while easing congestion, improving road safety and lowering transport costs.

The government has already deposited US$1.7 billion into a dedicated account at the Bank of Ghana for the project, with the funds ring-fenced until the main construction contract is awarded.
