An alleged phone snatcher narrowly escaped a mob attack following a failed robbery attempt at East Legon, around the A&C Mall in Accra on the evening of September 10, 2026.
According to a report by Atinka News, the incident involved the suspect and a motorbike rider who reportedly attempted to snatch a phone from a person while riding on a motorbike.
The robbery attempt, however, failed after the victim reportedly struck one of the suspects, causing him to fall from the motorbike. The incident immediately attracted the attention of passersby and residents, who rushed to the scene.
Some members of the crowd picked up various objects, including weapons, with the intention of attacking and lynching the alleged thief over his involvement in the robbery.
The situation could have turned fatal but the police arrived swiftly and intervened, preventing the mob from carrying out the attack.
Despite the presence of the police, some members of the crowd managed to hit and assault the suspect before he was eventually whisked away to the East Legon Police Station for further investigation.

Voices could be heard from behind the camera shouting, “Beat him! Kill him!” as some members of the crowd attempted to take the law into their own hands.
