Hawa Koomson makes fresh claim about Awutu Senya East seat

Former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson, has claimed that she did not lose the seat in the 2024 elections but had it “snatched” from her.

Speaking on UTV, monitored by GhanaWeb on September 11, 2026, she claimed, “I did not lose the election. My seat was snatched from me.”

Hawa Koomson, who is seeking to become the National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also rejected suggestions that she is a violent person, saying her conduct when her son was attacked in 2024 should have dispelled such perceptions.

“When my son was attacked in 2024, I did not react. So, they (NDC) thought the dog had been tamed,” she stated.

The former MP said she had been tagged as a violent person following an incident involving a gun during the 2020 elections.

However, she said she did not allow that perception to intimidate her and remained determined to serve the NPP in a different capacity.

“I am not a violent person, and I cannot be intimidated,” she noted.

Although some residents of the Awutu Senya East constituency want her to return and contest the parliamentary seat, Hawa Koomson said her focus is now on serving the party across the country.

“People in the constituency want me to stand as MP, but I want to work with every constituency now and not Kasoa. As National Women’s Organiser, I will lead by example,” she said.

Hawa Koomson had represented Awutu Senya East since 2012 before losing the seat to NDC candidate Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor in the 2024 parliamentary election.

Okunor polled 50,886 votes against Hawa Koomson’s 45,638 votes to win the constituency.
