GhIE urges newly inducted engineers to uphold professional standards

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has inducted 39 engineering practitioners following their successful completion of the Institution’s professional certification process.

The inductees include 35 employees of AngloGold Ashanti’s Iduapriem Mine, where the ceremony was held in Tarkwa.

The ceremony brought together members of the GhIE National Executive Council, executives of the Western Regional Branch and Tarkwa Chapter, management of Iduapriem Mine, the newly inducted practitioners and other stakeholders.

Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, the Director of Processing, Ing Abraham Osei Badu, congratulated the inductees and said the mine remained committed to the professional development of its employees.

He said all 33 Iduapriem employees who participated in the latest certification process passed the examinations, bringing the number of employees who had gone through the professional certification process since its introduction to about 85.

He urged the newly inducted practitioners to maintain professional competence, integrity and safety in carrying out their duties.

“Today’s induction is not a formality. It is a commitment,” he said, stressing the importance of making safety and professional responsibility central to their work.

The Director of Maintenance and Engineering, Ing Joseph Appiah Kodom Effah, also urged the inductees to uphold ethical standards and demonstrate competence in their professional careers.

He encouraged them to showcase the capabilities of Ghanaian engineers internationally, describing them as “the young engineers the world is waiting to see and experience.”

President of GhIE, Ing Ludwig Annang Hesse, said professional registration and continuous development were important to maintaining standards in the engineering profession.

He urged the inductees to pursue lifelong learning, adhere to professional ethics and apply their skills to Ghana’s development needs.

Chairman of the GhIE Tarkwa Chapter and Iduapriem GhIE Coordinator, Ing Osman Karim, said the professional certification programme was helping to strengthen engineering capacity in the mining sector.

He encouraged the inductees to participate in GhIE programmes and undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to keep pace with changes in technology.

The programme also featured remarks from Chairman of the Membership Committee, Ing Dr Michael A. Bekoe, and Ing Isaac Boakye Aduenin, who advised the inductees to uphold the standards and ethical principles of the engineering profession.

The GhIE President administered the professional oath before certificates were presented to the 39 newly inducted engineering practitioners.
