Wa-Han road to be completed by 2027 – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of the Upper West and Upper East regions that the long-awaited Wa-Han road will be completed before the end of 2027.

The President gave the assurance during an inspection of the road project under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme as part of his ‘Resetting Ghana Tour’ of the Upper West Region.

According to President Mahama, the road was prioritised because of its strategic importance in connecting regional capitals and improving movement between the two regions.

“When we’re doing the selection of the Big Push projects, we prioritise roads that link regional capitals. And this is one of the roads that links the Upper East regional capital with the Upper West region. So it’s a very important road indeed,” President Mahama said.

He acknowledged that the poor condition of the road over the years had led to frustration and doubts about whether the project would ever be completed.

However, he said the progress of work on the road has given him confidence that motorists will soon have a much easier journey between the two regions.

President Mahama said the government had also identified other roads in the Upper West Region for development.

He explained, however, that financial constraints meant the projects would have to be tackled in phases, with priority given to major trunk roads before the government turns its attention to feeder roads.

“I believe that today we can see that in just some months, that is, before the end of 2027, we will have a very comfortable ride between the two regional capitals,” he said.

The completion of the Wa-Han road is expected to improve connectivity between the Upper West and Upper East regions and ease the difficulties faced by motorists and residents who rely on the route.
