NCA concludes 700 MHz licensing process; MTN Ghana wins two lots

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has concluded the licensing process for the 700 MHz spectrum band, with MTN Ghana emerging as the successful applicant.

The NCA said MTN Ghana, officially known as Scancom Plc, applied for two of the three available lots. The two lots attracted a total licence fee of US$100.9 million.

“The two lots yielded a total Licence Fee of US$100.9 million,” it stated.

The announcement follows the opening and ranking of price offers submitted by qualified applicants on Friday, September 11, 2026.

The exercise forms part of the NCA’s process to assign spectrum in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz bands for mobile broadband services, including 5G.

For the 2.3 GHz band, five lots were available, but only four were applied for. Telecel Ghana and Goal Telecommunications Ltd are the qualified applicants. The NCA described the band as under-subscribed and said the process would move to the next stage.

For the 3 GHz band, demand exceeded the available spectrum. Four lots were applied for, although only three are available. MTN Ghana and Telecel Ghana are the qualified applicants for this band.

The NCA said the remaining steps for the 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz bands would continue in accordance with the licensing rules.

It said it would announce the final results for the two bands after the remaining stages of the process had been completed.
