Ghanaian student at UK university alleges stalking, harassment and account breach

A Ghanaian international student at York St John University in the United Kingdom, Eunice Taveng, has publicly raised concerns over what she describes as severe bullying, humiliation and harassment since moving to the UK.

In a public statement shared on LinkedIn, Taveng, who is currently pursuing an MBA, according to her profile on the platform, said her concerns initially led her to believe she was experiencing racism, but that subsequent incidents involving her accommodation, belongings and online accounts had heightened her concerns.

She alleged that the insoles of her shoes had been removed and replaced with ones she did not recognise, while the contents of one of her perfume bottles appeared to have been replaced with a substance with a different smell.

Taveng also said she had found items on her bed that she had not placed there and subsequently experienced severe itching after coming into contact with the bed.

She further raised concerns about what she believes may have been unauthorised access to her Google account, as well as unusual activity involving Google Maps.

According to her, she has also repeatedly experienced situations in which she believes she was being followed or stalked.

Taveng said she believes some of the incidents involving her belongings may be connected to rituals and spells, although she acknowledged that speaking publicly about such beliefs could lead some people to question her mental health rather than investigate the incidents she has reported.

“I believe there are deliberate attempts to portray me to the public as ‘mad’ or mentally ill because I have recognised and spoken about what I believe is happening,” she said.

She alleged that such attempts were intended to divert attention from the issues she had reported and discourage people from examining the evidence or calling for an investigation.

Taveng said she had previously reported her concerns to the police and York St John University.

She said the university had assisted her with some of the matters but explained that there were limits to what it had the authority to address.

The student said she had evidence, dates and information concerning people she believes may be involved and was prepared to provide them privately to the relevant authorities.

Taveng said the situation had become increasingly severe and that she was concerned about her safety.

“If anything further happens to me, I ask that my previous reports and evidence be reviewed as part of any investigation,” she said.

She is now calling on the relevant authorities and appropriate organisations to investigate the incidents she has reported, examine the available evidence, establish the facts and assist her.
