The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is handing over a 175.6-kilometre right-of-way cleared for the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway to the government.

The handover is taking place at Kwaso, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, where President John Dramani Mahama is expected to receive the cleared stretch.

The 175.6-kilometre section was cleared by the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces ahead of construction works on the 198.7-kilometre Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

The expressway is expected to improve connectivity between Accra and Kumasi, while easing congestion and reducing travel time along the major corridor.

The project has been described as the single largest capital investment by any government in the history of Ghana.
