Dr Ato Forson dismisses claims government has abandoned bypass projects

The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has dismissed claims that the government has abandoned ongoing bypass projects across the country.

According to him, the government has engaged some contractors working on the projects and assured them that outstanding payments would be made to enable them to continue their work.

Dr Ato Forson said some projects had already been completed, citing the Sofoline Interchange and surrounding works as examples of the government’s commitment to completing critical road infrastructure.

“It is not true that government has abandoned bypasses. We have met with some of the contractors and they are working. I assured some of the contractors that after working, they will be paid,” he said.

Speaking on Anopa Ahenfie on September 14, 2026, he said the government’s broader objective was to maximise available resources to ensure that major infrastructure projects were completed.

He further disclosed that the government was targeting December 2028 for the completion of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

Dr Ato Forson said the expressway was not intended to benefit only Kumasi but would form part of a wider road network connecting Ghana’s southern and northern sectors.

“We believe that by December 2028 the expressway should be completed. It is my duty to maximise resources for Ghana to make sure they are completed,” he said.
