President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces will serve as a major sub-contractor on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.

The announcement follows the successful completion of a 175.6-kilometre right-of-way clearing exercise by the regiment.

Speaking at a handover ceremony on Monday, September 14, 2026, President Mahama said the decision reflected the government’s confidence in the capabilities of the military engineering unit.

“I direct the Minister of Roads and Highways to incorporate the Ghana Armed Forces Engineers Regiment as a major subcontractor to the main contractor for the expressway,” he said.
