Over 1,400 trafficking survivors have received rehabilitation support – Gender Minister

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has disclosed that 1,432 victims of human trafficking have received rehabilitation and reintegration support as the government intensifies efforts to protect survivors of exploitation and abuse.

According to her, the support forms part of interventions aimed at helping survivors recover from their experiences and rebuild their lives through psychosocial care, rehabilitation and other forms of assistance.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Dr Lartey said 181 survivors had received trauma-informed care at shelters, while an additional 69 had been referred for further support and services.

She added that the Ministry had also provided counselling, legal and financial assistance to 152 survivors of domestic violence.

Dr Lartey further disclosed that the government had commissioned a shelter in Accra and supported the establishment of two additional shelters in the Upper West and Eastern Regions.

She said the long-term objective was to establish a network of shelters across all 16 regions to ensure that survivors have access to immediate protection and the necessary support services.

Dr Lartey said the interventions were critical to providing survivors with counselling, legal assistance and other services needed to recover and rebuild their lives after experiencing abuse or exploitation.
