NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and NPP stalwart Dr Bryan Acheampong
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has disclosed that the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, halted his efforts to renovate the Nkawkaw Stadium.
According to him, he had gone through the necessary processes required by the relevant authorities and received approval to begin construction of the stadium.
The NPP stalwart indicated that he hired contractors to commence the construction works and made some payments to ensure the project was completed as soon as possible.

However, he said Ampofo Ankrah later asked him to halt the construction works because certain issues needed to be resolved before the project could proceed.
“While the work was ongoing, we got a text message from Ampofo Ankrah to halt it because some discussions were ongoing. I asked for reconsideration because the contractor had started work and the dressing room foundation was done; we were about to do the filling. Yet he insisted that we stop.
“I had graded the field and gone for black soil from Afram Plains, 90 trips to keep on the pitch. I have waited for feedback from him for about two weeks, but I haven’t heard from him yet," he said in Twi during the interview with Adom FM.
Acheampong further disclosed that there had been discussions with the NSA, during which he was asked to provide documentation to prove that he would not claim ownership of the stadium after its completion.
He noted that he had no intention of owning the facility, stressing that the property already belongs to the government.
Acheampong said he therefore does not understand the reason for the NSA’s demand and called on the authority to clarify the issue.
“He asked me to present documentation of proof indicating when the stadium was completed. I won't claim ownership. But I told him it is already government property. It has been in poor condition, so I decided to renovate it and can't claim ownership.
“So we finished these talks, and in the middle of the construction work, he stopped me and asked me to present documents. I don’t know what exactly he wants from me,” he added.
