The delegation was received by GoldBod Deputy CEO Richard Nunekpeku
A delegation from the United States Department of the Treasury, accompanied by officials from the Economic Section of the US Embassy in Accra, has visited the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to learn about Ghana’s gold sector reforms.
GoldBod said in a post that the delegation visited its offices on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The delegation was received by GoldBod Deputy CEO Richard Nunekpeku, Director of Responsible Mining Professor Ishmael Quaicoe and Deputy Director of Mining Operations James German.
According to GoldBod, Nunekpeku briefed the delegation on the Board’s mandate under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), and its role in implementing the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Programme (GANRAP).
He also outlined initiatives being pursued by GoldBod to strengthen Ghana’s gold value chain, including local gold refining, reforms to the national assay regime and the development of a nationwide gold traceability system.
The delegation was further briefed on efforts to provide bankable geological assessments to support investment and improve data on Ghana’s mineral resources.
GoldBod said discussions also covered measures to formalise the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector and reclaim degraded forest landscapes affected by mining activities.
The Board said the initiatives are part of efforts to improve the management of Ghana’s gold resources and strengthen systems across the gold value chain.
The visit comes as Ghana pursues reforms aimed at increasing local participation in the gold sector, including refining, assaying, traceability and responsible mining.
